The COMM485 interface, performs the conversion between a serial port RS232 and an RS485 line.
Its simplicity of use means that it can be used also if it is necessary to establish a serial connection between 2 devices with RS232 port, but arranged at a distance such to prevent the use of the standard serial port.
|
Compared to other converters RS232 / RS485 the COMM485 interface offers some important advantages:
- The RS232 / RS485 conversion is performed completely automatically, so that the COMM485 interface can also be used with software designed for serial ports RS232, and therefore without the direction signal requested by the RS485 line.
- The COMM485 interface guarantees galvanic insulation between RS232 and RS485, avoiding propagation of disturbance from one line to another. This is very important when a PC is used to control, for example, processing lines installed in industrial workplaces; in fact, without any galvanic isolation, any disturbance detected by the RS485 line could reach the PC, altering its operation or damaging it.
